Stories that connect generations

Contribution & content terms

Terms for writing, artwork, proofs, and family contributions to Blue Rock Legacy Books.

Who owns the writing

Contributors keep the rights to what they wrote. By submitting, they grant the purchasing family and Blue Rock a limited, non-exclusive license to lightly edit, lay out, and print the piece in that family's book and its future editions. We don't publish, resell, or license anyone's writing elsewhere.

What “light editing” means

Spelling, spacing, and layout. We don't rewrite anyone's voice. A child's poem prints the way the child wrote it — including the parts that don't scan.

Writing from relatives who have passed

Meaningful writing from loved ones who are no longer here is welcome, and it's often the most-read page in the book. We ask the purchaser to confirm they have the family's agreement to include it, and we credit it clearly.

Artwork

Your artwork choice governs the whole book. If you ask us not to use AI-generated images, we use licensed or hand-made art instead. Uploaded artwork must be yours or something you have permission to use.

Third-party material

We can't print copyrighted poems, lyrics, or illustrations that aren't your family's. Blue Rock's origin story mentions Where the Sidewalk Ends because that's where the idea came from — we don't reproduce or imitate it.

Review before printing

Every book gets a proof. Nothing prints until the purchaser approves it. If a contributor asks us to pull their piece before the proof is approved, we will.

Focus-group participation

Focus-group projects are provided at no charge. If you need to pause or stop your pilot project, contact Blue Rock as soon as possible so we can coordinate next steps before printing.
